AP Transfer Credit at Scripps College?

Hey everyone, I'm planning to apply to Scripps College and have a bunch of AP credits. Does anyone know how AP transfer credit works there? Is it difficult to get credits accepted, and how does it affect your course load?

Hello! Scripps College does indeed accept some AP credits. The amount of credit you receive will primarily depend on the scores you achieve on your AP exams. More specifically, Scripps College grants placement and credit for AP scores of 4 or 5.

Even though the college accepts AP credits, there are certain restrictions and limitations. First, a maximum of two credits from AP, IB, or other pre-college credits can be applied toward graduation. Hence, even if you have a multitude of AP credits, only two can contribute to your course load at Scripps.

Additionally, AP credit cannot be utilized for general education requirements or major requirements, except when it is specified by the department. Finally, while AP credits are generally applied toward elective credits, the credits won't affect which classes you can register for during your first year, unless the department specifies that the AP credits can be used for prerequisites.

Transferring AP credits at Scripps doesn't seem to be traditionally 'difficult', as long as you've received scores of 4 or 5 on your AP exams. However, because of the limitations placed on the number of credits that can be applied toward graduation and how they can be used, it may not necessarily lighten your academic load as you might hope. It's best to reach out to the college directly or check their catalog or website for the most specific and up-to-date information.
