Do AP scores count for college credits transfer?

I've taken a bunch of AP classes and have decent scores. If I transfer colleges later, do AP scores help with getting college credits, or do they need a special review?

AP scores can often be used for college credit, but it holds true mainly for incoming freshmen. For students transferring between colleges, it becomes a bit more complicated. When you transfer, colleges will typically look at the courses you've completed and the grades you've received in those classes at the college level, rather than your AP scores.

This being said, it's not impossible that your AP scores can support your transfer—just not as directly. Some colleges may still consider these scores when reviewing your transfer application. For example, high AP scores could potentially demonstrate your ability to handle rigorous coursework or contribute to your overall academic profile in a positive manner.

Additionally, your AP scores could have helped you in getting college credits at your first institution. Depending on the credit and placement policies at the college you're transferring to, these credits could potentially transfer with you. However, this really depends on the specific transfer agreements and credit policies in place at both your current school and the school you're transferring to.

In summary, while your AP scores might not directly translate into credits when transferring, they could still have an impact on your transfer application and may indirectly contribute to transferred credits. The safest course of action is to consult with the registrar or admissions offices of both institutions involved in your transfer. They will be able to provide you with the most accurate information for your specific situation.
