College Transfer to Schools Offering Rolling Admissions

I'm thinking about transferring to a school with rolling admissions. How does the process differ from regular admissions, and is there anything I should know to increase my chances of acceptance?

While both processes review similar components of your academic and extracurricular profile, the timing and strategy of rolling admissions versus regular admissions can differ significantly.

With rolling admissions, schools review applications as they are submitted and usually render decisions within a few weeks or months. Unlike regular admissions, there is no set deadline. However, there's typically a time frame (usually quite long - often six months or more) during which applications are accepted. Earlier applications often have a better chance of acceptance given the wider array of available spots. Yet, this doesn't necessarily imply that applying later is detrimental. Schools continue to accept students until all spots are filled.

This differs from regular admissions where all applications are due by a certain date and decisions are released simultaneously on a set date. In regular admissions, each application is evaluated against all the others that have been submitted, while in rolling admissions, your application is evaluated against others submitted around the same time.

In terms of boosting your chances, applying early is important since spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Make sure to submit a well-rounded application that showcases both your academic prowess and your engagement outside the classroom, just as you would during regular admissions. Highlight the reasons for transferring and how you believe the school will help you achieve your academic and career goals.

Lastly, pay close attention to financial aid deadlines. Unlike admission, financial aid is often distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so applying as soon as possible can be to your advantage.

Hope this helps and best of luck with your transfer process!
