How does transfer credit work at Hunter College?

I'm considering transferring to Hunter College, and I'm curious about how their transfer credit process works. Does anyone know how they evaluate credits from other institutions? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hunter College, like most higher education institutions, has a thorough transfer credit process in place. They aim to ensure that credits you've earned at other accredited institutions can be transferred successfully to their programs.

The process usually starts with submitting your official transcripts from your previous colleges or universities. Afterwards, the Office of Admissions thoroughly reviews these transcripts to determine whether the courses you've taken match up with the courses offered at Hunter College, both in content and learning outcomes.

The credits are typically transferred on a course-by-course basis, rather than blanket credit hours. In other words, Hunter will try to match your previous courses with their courses. For instance, a History 101 course at your previous college should ideally correspond with a History 101 course at Hunter College.

Keep in mind that Hunter generally only provides credit for courses you've passed with a grade of C or higher. Additionally, where possible, your transferred course credits will be allocated towards your chosen major or general education requirements, but this isn't always guaranteed. Some credits may come in as electives if they don't fit into your major or general education courses.

Your academic advisor or the Office of Admissions should be able to answer any further questions regarding your specific situation. They would greatly assist your transition and help you understand how each of your credits would transfer over.

Just remember that receiving credit for a course does not necessarily mean that it will count towards your major or general education requirements. Keep in touch with both the Office of Admissions and your academic advisor to ensure you are on the right path and making the most of your transferred credits.
