Advice on transferring credits to College of Charleston?

Does anyone have experience with transferring to the College of Charleston? How was the credit transfer process? Were there any classes that didn’t transfer over? I'd love to hear how it went for others.

Transferring credits can be a bit of a complex process, but the College of Charleston attempts to make it as straightforward as possible. Here are some things to keep in mind based on information provided by the university and others' experiences.

The University provides a Transfer Credit Evaluation system where they assess the transferability of each credit you've earned at other institutions. This involves a thorough review of the number of credit hours you've earned, the grade you received, and how the course content aligns with the College's own offerings.

Your transferred credit grade needs to be "C" or better. In a majority of cases, transfer credits are awarded elective credit. The departments approve all major/minor specific courses.

As for specific courses that might not transfer, it really depends on the specific nature of your previous coursework. College of Charleston maintains transfer equivalency tables for many accredited universities, making it easier to determine what will transfer and how it will count.

It's absolutely crucial to consult with an academic advisor or the transfer counselor at College of Charleston during this process. They can provide specialized guidance based on your particular situation and help streamline the transfer process.

Additionally, it's advisable to keep syllabi or course descriptions from your previous institution(s) just in case. Sometimes, the transfer office may want more information about a specific course to decide whether it meets the criteria of a course offered at the College of Charleston.

Remember to be patient, the process can take some time, particularly if there are many credits to evaluate or if your previous institution(s) have a unique curriculum. But with proper documentation and consultation with an advisor, it can be made manageable.
