What's the process of transferring from community college to UConn?

I'm thinking about transferring from a community college to UConn after completing some credits. Does anyone have experience with this, and what should I expect in terms of requirements?

Transferring to UConn from a community college is certainly achievable! In fact, the University of Connecticut (UConn) often welcomes transfer students from both 2-year and 4-year institutions. Here are some of the main requirements they usually seek.

1. A completed course load of 12 credits or more at one of the accredited community colleges.

2. The institution favors applicants that have completed a full academic year (24 or more credits) at a community college and earned a CGPA of 2.7 or higher. For competitive programs, a higher GPA might be necessary.

3. It's also critical to note that certain programs at UConn have more specific prerequisites. For example, the School of Business and Nursing require additional coursework. You might need to take specific courses related to your intended major, maintain a certain GPA, or apply by a separate deadline.

4. You’ll also need to submit college transcripts from all colleges you’ve attended, as well as a completed application through the Common Application site, and pay an application fee. Make sure to meet the application deadline which usually falls in early February for fall admission and early October for spring admission.

5. An essay and recommendations are also part of the application process. UConn asks that you complete a personal essay on a topic of your choice or on one of the given prompts. Recommendations should preferably be from instructors who can provide insight into your academic abilities.

Keep in mind, you need to plan to fulfill the requirement of 90 credits outside UConn, since UConn requires that at least 30 credits must be completed at the Storrs campus or one of UConn's regional campuses to be awarded a degree.

Before making the move, you may also want to check out UConn's Transfer Course Equivalencies Database on their website to get an idea of how courses from your current institution might transfer directly to UConn.

Lastly, consider consulting with your academic advisor at your current college and also reaching out to the admissions office at UConn to clarify any questions or uncertainties you might have. They can provide invaluable guidance and help you navigate the process smoothly. Good luck with your journey!
