Thinking of transferring to Columbia College and wondering what the requirements are for transfer students. Do they have any specific GPA or credit requirements? How's the campus for transfers?
Columbia University's Columbia College accepts transfer students for the fall semester each year. The College does not set a minimum GPA for transfer applicants, though successful applicants usually have a collegiate GPA of 3.5 - 4.0. Applicants must have completed one full year (two semesters) of college coursework prior to applying, and have at least one full year left to complete at Columbia College in order to meet the residency requirement. High school coursework no longer matters when applying as a transfer, as you will be evaluated on your post-high school coursework.
The number of credits you can transfer will not exceed 60 credits, or the equivalent of two years of full-time study. This includes all post-secondary coursework. Transfer credit cannot be given for online courses, non-academic courses, or internships. You can get a better sense of how much coursework will transfer after you are accepted.
As for Columbia's campus, many transfer students report feeling welcomed into the academic community. Columbia University has a number of resources designed to assist and engage transfer students, such as the Columbia University Transfer Alliance (CUTA), a student-led organization that aims to support and integrate transfer students into campus life.
The process is quite competitive--according to CollegeVine, Columbia College's transfer acceptance rate was about 5.9% in 2021. Despite this, transfer students can, and do, get into Columbia each year. It's definitely worth putting the time and effort into making your application as strong as possible! Good luck!
