How to transfer into FIU from another 4-year college?

I'm currently studying at a 4-year university but want to transfer to FIU. What should I prepare for in terms of credits and applications? Any FIU transfer student here to share their experience?

Transferring from one university to another can seem daunting, but by understanding the requirements and process, you can position yourself for success.

To transfer to Florida International University (FIU), the first point of consideration is academic eligibility. FIU typically requires transfer applicants to have completed at least 60 transferable credits. You'll need to have a 2.0 minimum GPA for all college-level work attempted. But keep in mind that some majors may have higher GPA requirements.

Next, you will need to apply through FIU’s online application portal. In the application, you'll provide details about your educational history and future plans at FIU. You'll also need to send along your official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you've attended, even if no credit was earned.

In terms of your credits, it's wise to contact FIU's Transfer and Transition Services and speak to an advisor about how your credits will be evaluated for transfer before you apply. Not all credits may transfer over, and it will likely depend on the specific courses, your grades in those courses, and how they align with FIU's curriculum.

Once you've submitted your application, it's a matter of patience while the Admissions Committee reviews it. Following the committee's decision, you'll need to send final official transcripts from all institutions for final transfer credit evaluation.

In regards to student experiences, many transfer students have expressed that FIU's clear transfer requirements and dedicated resources for transfer students make the transition smoother. They also often talk about the active and inclusive student community at FIU, which eases their integration into the university environment.

Good luck with your transfer application!
