Science class validity in high school?

Hi everyone! I wanted to know, how long are science classes considered 'good' for in high school? Like, do colleges have a preference for recent classes or is it generally fine if I took a class in my freshman or sophomore year? Thanks for your help!

Hi there! Colleges typically look at your entire high school transcript, which includes all classes you took from freshman to senior year. So, it is perfectly fine if you took some science classes in your freshman or sophomore year. They won't be considered less "good" or less valid just because they were taken earlier in your high school career.

However, it's essential to demonstrate a consistent commitment to a strong academic rigor throughout your high school years, including science classes. Colleges will be evaluating the range and level of the courses you've taken, so it could be beneficial to continue taking science courses in your junior and senior years, even if they're not directly related to your intended major. This shows that you're continually challenging yourself academically and maintain a well-rounded education.

Additionally, keep in mind that if you're planning to apply for a science-related major, it might be even more critical to have a solid science foundation during your high school years. In this case, having more recent and advanced science classes on your transcript can demonstrate your preparedness to succeed in a science major in college.
