How is the ACT Writing Test scored?

Hey everyone! I'm wondering how the ACT Writing Test is scored, like what's the grading scale and process? Anyone who's taken the test before, can you please provide some insight? Thanks in advance!

Hey! Sure, I'd be happy to help explain the ACT Writing Test scoring process. The ACT Writing Test is scored on a scale of 2-12. Your essay is evaluated by two graders, each of whom assigns a score from 1 to 6 in four different domains: Ideas and Analysis, Development and Support, Organization, and Language Use and Conventions. The scores from each grader in each domain are then added together to produce domain scores on a scale of 2-12.

Next, the domain scores from the two graders are averaged, rounding up to the nearest whole number if necessary, to produce an individual domain score. Finally, the averaged domain scores for Ideas and Analysis, Development and Support, Organization, and Language Use and Conventions are combined to produce a final Writing Test score, which is also on a scale of 2-12.

It's important to note that your ACT Writing Test score is separate from your composite ACT score, which is calculated as the average of the four multiple-choice sections (English, Math, Reading, and Science) and ranges from 1-36. Your Writing Test score is reported on your ACT score report alongside your composite score and individual section scores.

I hope this helps clear things up! Good luck with your testing!
