How many previous SAT scores should I report?

If I've taken the SAT multiple times, how many of my past scores should I report to colleges during the application process? Do colleges prefer to see all of them, or should I just report my highest scores?

When reporting your SAT scores to colleges, it's generally best to submit only your highest scores. Most colleges follow a practice called "superscoring," where they consider the highest subscores from each section across different test dates and create a new, higher composite score. Therefore, you should submit scores from test dates on which you performed well in separate sections.

For example, if you took the SAT twice and scored higher in Math the first time and higher in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing the second time, you should submit both test scores, as colleges will take the highest section scores to form the superscore.

Before submitting your scores, check the specific policies of the colleges you're interested in. Some colleges may require you to submit all of your test scores, while others ask for your best single sitting score. Most colleges, however, practice superscoring.

In summary, it's best to submit only your highest scores, but always confirm the specific policies of the colleges you're applying to before sending in your SAT scores.
