SAT Reading Time Management?

Hey everyone, as I'm prepping for the SAT, I'm having trouble managing my time on the reading section. On average, how much time should I allocate per passage so I can avoid running out of time? Any tips or strategies would be highly appreciated.

Hey there! I understand that managing time on the SAT reading section can be tricky. To ensure you have enough time for all passages, you should aim to spend about 13 minutes per passage, including answering the questions. This will give you 65 minutes in total for the 5 passages in the section. Here are a few tips and strategies to help you manage your time better on test day:

1. Skim the passage first: Quickly skim through the passage to get an overall idea of the content and structure. You don't need to read every word or understand all the details at this point.

2. Answer specific questions first: After skimming, tackle the questions that direct you to specific lines or paragraphs. Since the questions follow the order of the passage, you'll be answering questions while reading the passage in more detail.

3. Use process of elimination: For multiple-choice questions, eliminating obviously incorrect choices can help you make a more informed guess if you're unsure of the answer.

4. Keep track of time: You can use a watch (without an audible alarm) or the test center's clock. Make a mental note of the time remaining for each passage after every couple of questions, so you know if you need to speed up.

5. Answer all questions: There is no penalty for incorrect answers, so make sure to answer every question, even if you have to guess.

6. Practice, practice, practice: The more you practice, the more familiar and comfortable you'll become with the format and timing of the SAT reading section. Time yourself using official SAT practice tests and reflect on your reading speed and comprehension, so you can adjust your strategy accordingly.

Remember, different strategies work for different people, so be sure to practice and find what works best for you. Good luck with your test prep!
