Not Submitting SAT Scores

With the whole test-optional situation, I'm debating whether or not to submit my SAT scores. Is it bad if I decide not to submit them, especially if my scores are a bit low? Will it affect my chances of admission?

Opting not to submit an SAT score, especially if it's on the lower side, can be a strategic decision. Test-optional policies were designed to allow students to present the best possible application without the added pressure of scores that may not accurately reflect their abilities.

If you feel your SAT score doesn't represent your academic potential and other parts of your application, like your GPA and extracurriculars, are strong, it's completely valid to leave it out.

Not submitting an SAT score won't necessarily hurt your chances of admission if the rest of your application is strong. Admissions committees will focus on your coursework, essays, extracurriculars, and other factors that speak to your potential as a student. In fact, there's some data to suggest that students who apply without test scores have similar rates of admission as those who include them.

In order to make the best decision, try comparing your SAT score to the middle 50% range of admitted students at the colleges you're interested in. If your score is significantly below that range, it may be better to exclude it from your application. However, if your score falls within or above that range, submitting it could help bolster your application.

Ultimately, the choice should be based on a holistic evaluation of your application and an understanding of the specific admissions criteria at the schools you're targeting. Good luck with your applications!
