Max Possible IB Score?

Hi! Just have a quick question - what's the maximum IB score someone can get after completing the diploma program? I want to set realistic goals for myself and understand the scoring system better. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program awards students a total score out of a maximum of 45 points. The breakdown of the scoring system is as follows:

1. There are six subject groups in the IB curriculum, and you'll take one course from each group (with some exceptions). Each course is graded on a scale of 1-7, with 7 being the highest. That means you can score a maximum of 42 points (6 courses x 7 points) from subject courses alone.

2. In addition to the six subject courses, you'll complete the Core components, which consist of an Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, and Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) project. The EE and TOK components are assessed together and can contribute up to 3 additional points to your total score.

CAS is not awarded any points, but it's a crucial component to complete in order to obtain the full IB Diploma. CAS requirements focus on personal development through artistic, physical, or community service experiences.

So, to sum it up, the maximum IB score you can achieve is 45 points, taking into account 42 points from your subject courses and up to 3 extra points from the combined assessment of Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. Remember to set realistic goals based on your strengths, and don't forget to dedicate time to the Core components as well. Good luck with your IB journey!
