ACT: with writing or without?

Hey everyone! I'm planning on taking the ACT soon and was wondering whether I should take it with or without the writing section. How do colleges perceive it, and does it make a difference on my application? Thanks for your help!

Hi there! Deciding whether to take the ACT with or without writing largely depends on the colleges you're interested in. Some schools require the ACT with writing, while others don't. To make sure you're prepared regardless of the schools you apply to, you might consider taking the test with writing.

The writing section doesn't have a significant impact on your composite ACT score, which colleges place more importance on. However, the writing score can help colleges understand your writing skills and provide additional context to your application. A solid writing score could potentially give you a slight edge in admissions if the rest of your application is strong.

To find out whether your target colleges require or recommend the writing section, you can either check their websites or contact their admissions offices directly. If none of the schools you're interested in require or recommend the ACT with writing, you can decide whether or not to include it based on your personal preference and schedule.

Good luck with your ACT! Remember to study and prepare well, regardless of whether you decide to take it with or without the writing section.
