Colgate vs. Villanova Social Scenes

Hi everyone! I'm considering both Colgate and Villanova, but I'm not sure which one is the better fit for me. Can someone tell me how the social scenes at these two schools compare? Are there any major differences or similarities? Let me know, please!

Hi! The social scenes at Colgate and Villanova are both great, but they do have distinct differences.

At Colgate, there is a strong emphasis on Greek life, with about one-third of the student body participating. The party scene revolves around fraternities and sororities. However, there are still events and activities outside of Greek life, such as school-sponsored events, club meetings, and outdoor excursions. Colgate has a tight-knit student community due to its smaller size, and its rural location can lead to students bonding over common interests and outdoor activities like hiking and skiing.

Villanova, on the other hand, has a Division I sports culture, specifically focusing on basketball. This means that a considerable amount of the social scene revolves around sporting events. Students often come together to watch games, celebrate, and participate in school spirit activities. Greek life is present at Villanova as well, with around 20% of students involved, but it's not as dominant as at Colgate. Villanova offers a range of clubs, volunteer opportunities, and social events to keep students engaged and connected. Its suburban location and proximity to Philadelphia give students more access to off-campus activities and resources than Colgate.

Ultimately, the decision between these two schools will largely depend on your personal preferences. If you enjoy the outdoors and prefer a smaller, tight-knit community, Colgate might be the better choice. On the other hand, if you're more interested in sports and have a stronger desire for access to a city, Villanova could be the better fit. Either way, you'll get a fantastic education at both institutions. Good luck!
