High Point vs. Elon: Which university is right for me?

I'm currently considering applying to both High Point University and Elon University. Can anyone give me some information on the major differences between these schools in terms of academics, campus life, and post-graduation success? It'd be really helpful to get some opinions!

It's important to first understand that each individual's experience is going to be different at any university, so what works for one person may not work for another. That said, it's helpful to consider some key differences between High Point University (HPU) and Elon University.

High Point is known for having strong programs in business, communication, and education. Class sizes at HPU are generally small, giving students more personalized attention from their professors.

On the other hand, Elon offers a wider range of academic majors and has a strong focus on undergraduate research and experiential learning, including study abroad programs and internships. Elon also has distinctive Living-Learning Communities, which encourage students to engage thoroughly with their academic interests.

Campus Life:

At HPU, the campus facilities are extremely well-maintained, giving the school a luxurious feel. There's a supportive and close-knit community, and students are often drawn in by HPU's personalized approach to learning. Campus life offers a variety of clubs, intramural sports, and Greek life options, which contributes to creating an active, engaged student body.

Elon has a similarly picturesque campus but with more of a traditional college feel. Students at Elon are still known to be active participants in campus life, though, and there is an especially strong focus on community service. Greek life is more prominent at Elon, as well as athletics, with the school offering numerous NCAA Division I sports teams for both men and women.

Post-Graduation Success:

Both universities have strong career placement services, with 99% of HPU undergrads finding a job or enrolling in grad school within 6 months of graduation, and 96% of Elon grads doing the same within 9 months. According to Payscale, the average base salary for HPU grads is 66k and 68k for Elon grads. Both schools have career services and professional development centers.

In conclusion, both High Point and Elon have unique offerings that can lead to a successful college experience, based on what you value most. If a smaller, supportive environment with personalized attention and a focus on business, communication, or education is important to you, High Point may be a better fit. Or, if you prefer a more traditional college atmosphere with a strong emphasis on undergraduate research, experiential learning, and community service, Elon could be the right choice.

Ultimately, visit both campuses if possible and get a firsthand feel for each, as that is often the best way to decide what will work for you personally. Best of luck with your decision!
