Fordham vs Harvard: Life beyond academics

I've been quite fortunate to receive acceptances from both Fordham and Harvard. Although the choice may seem obvious, I'm thinking about factors other than academics. Can anyone give some insight into student life and the overall experience of these two schools? I'm trying to get a feel for which environment would suit me most.

Fordham, located in New York City, offers a unique urban campus experience. The main campus, Rose Hill, is in the Bronx, while the Lincoln Center Campus is in Manhattan. You'll have access to all the amenities and opportunities NYC has to offer. Student life at Fordham is often described as vibrant and diverse, with a strong commitment to social justice and service.

The smaller class sizes and campus population can foster more intimate connections with your classmates and professors. There are also many clubs and organizations to get involved in, allowing you to pursue your interests outside of academics.

Harvard, on the other hand, offers a more traditional college environment in the city of Cambridge. It's located near Boston, which also offers a wide array of cultural, social, and recreational opportunities. Harvard is known for its strong sense of school spirit and traditions like "Housing Day" and the "The Game" against Yale.

The Harvard-Yale rivalry not only encompasses sports, but also has an impact on the general student community. Like at Fordham, there are numerous clubs and organizations to join, but the prestige and resources of Harvard often result in unparalleled opportunities within these groups.

One key difference between the two institutions is their size. Harvard has a larger student body and may feel more competitive due to its reputation. However, Harvard's residential housing system is designed to create close-knit communities within the larger student body. You'll be placed into one of 12 residential houses after freshman year, helping to create a smaller, more intimate atmosphere.

Both universities have their own unique attributes, and ultimately, the choice depends on your preferences and priorities. Consider factors such as campus environment, location, social life, extracurricular opportunities, and overall atmosphere when weighing your decision.

It would also be helpful to visit both campuses, if possible, to get a firsthand feel for each school. Just remember that there's no right answer—both Fordham and Harvard have plenty to offer and can provide you with an excellent education and college experience.
