I'm applying to Rice University and their 'Box' question on the application has me a little stumped. What are some creative things people have submitted here? I could use some inspiration to help me brainstorm ideas. Thanks a lot!
The Rice Box is an opportunity for you to showcase your creativity, personality, and interests in a way that doesn't come across anywhere else in your application. There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but here are a few unique examples to spark your own ideas:
1. A favorite comic strip: Maybe there's a comic strip that's been hanging on your fridge as long as you can remember, and every day you look at it on your way out the door to school.
2. Origami: If you have an unusual hobby, like origami, that might not fit the more formal confines of the activities list, a photo of one of your creations could be just the right thing to send in.
3. Photography: You may already have listed photography in your activities list, but having an actual example of one of your photos could both show Rice admissions officers your talent and allow you to share one of your other interests as well (in the photo you took).
The Rice Box is all about thinking outside the (literal) box and providing the admissions committee with a glimpse of who you are beyond your grades and test scores. Take some time to brainstorm what aspects of your life you want to share and think about what image you could share that would express these qualities in a unique and personal way. Good luck!
