Hampton University vs Howard University

Hey, could anyone familiar with Hampton University and Howard University help me decide between the two? Which one do you think is better in terms of academics, campus life, and resources? I'm having a tough time choosing!

Hey there! I'll try my best to give you a comparison between Hampton University and Howard University, but keep in mind that general overviews won't be able to give you the full picture. Definitely do some research on your own to try and get a more complete picture of each school. With that being said, here is my input:

Academics

Both Hampton and Howard are historically black universities with strong academic programs, so you can't go wrong with either choice. However, they do have different strengths. Howard is known for its programs in social sciences, health, and journalism. It has a higher research profile and a wider range of graduate programs. On the other hand, Hampton has notable programs in business, science, and engineering. Look into your intended major and evaluate which school may better cater to your academic interests.

Campus Life

In terms of campus life, Hampton and Howard have different atmospheres. Hampton is a smaller institution with a close-knit community and is located in Hampton, Virginia. It has a suburban setting with beautiful waterfront views. If you prefer a quieter, more relaxed environment, Hampton might be the better choice for you.

Howard, on the other hand, is located in Washington D.C., offering a more urban experience with lots of cultural, historical, and political attractions. The campus is larger, and you'll encounter a more diverse mix of students, which can be an asset. If accessing internships and networking opportunities is important to you, Howard's location might give you a slight edge.

Resources

Both universities provide a wide range of resources to help students succeed. However, due to its higher research activity and urban location, Howard tends to have more scholarship opportunities, internships, and research options available. Additionally, being in D.C. may help you develop professional connections, especially if you're interested in government or nonprofit work.
