Bucknell vs Holy Cross: Help with the decision?

Hi everyone, I've been accepted to both Bucknell and Holy Cross, but I'm having trouble choosing between them. Can anyone provide insight into the academics, extracurriculars, and overall campus culture at these schools? Any comparisons or advice would be super helpful, thank you!

Congratulations on your acceptances! Both Bucknell and Holy Cross are great schools, but they have some differences in terms of academics, extracurriculars, and campus culture that may make one more appealing to you.

Academics:

Bucknell is well-known for its engineering and business programs, which are highly respected in their fields. It has a strong emphasis on collaborative and interdisciplinary learning, and small class sizes promote closer relationships with professors.

Holy Cross, on the other hand, is a Jesuit institution with a strong emphasis on the liberal arts. It offers a rigorous core curriculum, which promotes critical thinking and a well-rounded education. Sciences and humanities programs are particularly strong at Holy Cross, and the institution also emphasizes faculty-student research opportunities.

Extracurriculars:

Both schools have a variety of clubs and organizations, but the offerings and atmosphere may differ. Bucknell has over 200 student clubs and organizations, with various academic, cultural, recreational, and special interest groups. Greek life is also a significant presence on campus, with around 40% of students participating.

Holy Cross has over 100 clubs and organizations, allowing students to explore various interests. Greek life is not present on the Holy Cross campus. Instead, there is a focus on community service, leadership opportunities, and honor societies. Sports are popular too, but there is a heavier emphasis on service and social justice due to its Jesuit roots.

Campus Culture:

Bucknell is located in rural Lewisburg, PA, which provides a picturesque and close-knit campus environment. The student body is around 3,700, with a strong sense of community and school spirit. There is a vibrant social scene and many activities sponsored by the university.

Holy Cross is situated in Worcester, MA, which offers more of an urban environment with a college-town feel. With about 3,200 students, the campus is slightly smaller than Bucknell's but still fosters a strong sense of community. Being a Jesuit institution, it has a deep commitment to social justice, community service, and spiritual growth.

Best of luck with your decision!
