Summer writing contests for high school students?

Hey! I'm a high school junior with a passion for writing. Are there any summer writing contests specifically for high school students? I'd love to submit some of my work and possibly win some prizes or recognition. Thanks!

Hey there! It's terrific that you're interested in pursuing your passion for writing through contests. There are several writing contests available specifically for high school students during the summer. I'll list a few examples, but make sure to check the contest websites for submission guidelines, eligibility, and deadlines.

1. Scholastic Art & Writing Awards: One of the most prestigious competitions for creative teens, the Scholastic Awards has categories for various forms of writing, including poetry, short stories, flash fiction, and more. They offer national recognition and even possible scholarships.

2. YoungArts: This national competition accepts submissions in various artistic disciplines, including creative writing. If you become a YoungArts winner, you'll have access to workshops, mentorship, and potential financial awards.

3. Bennington Young Writers Awards: Sponsored by Bennington College, this contest accepts submissions in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. There are cash prizes for the top three winners in each category.

4. Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award: This international competition is for poets aged 11-17. It welcomes submission of unpublished poetry and offers winners publication, mentorship, and invitations to literary events.

5. Rider University Annual High School Writing Contest: This contest is open to high school students who write short stories, essays, and excerpts from novels. Monetary prizes are awarded to the top three entries.
