Is it better to have a high GPA with easier classes or a lower GPA with more challenging classes?

Hello! So, I'm a junior right now and I've been taking quite a few challenging classes throughout high school. My GPA is decent but not amazing. I'm worried that colleges might prefer a higher GPA with easier classes. Can anyone offer any advice? Much appreciated!

Hey there! It's great that you're thinking about this now, as it shows that you're being proactive about your future. Colleges generally look at both your GPA and the rigor of your classes, so it's important to strike a balance between the two. Taking more challenging classes can demonstrate to admissions officers that you're willing to challenge yourself and can handle college-level work. On the other hand, a high GPA shows that you're consistent in your academics and have a strong work ethic. One thing to keep in mind is that colleges usually take into account the context of your school, meaning they'll evaluate your GPA and course load relative to what's available at your school. Ultimately, it's best to focus on doing well in the most challenging classes you feel comfortable taking. This way, you'll be showcasing both your intellectual curiosity and your ability to succeed academically. Best of luck!
