How hard is it to get into Harvard Law?

I'm a junior and have recently started thinking about my dream schools. I've always wanted to go to Harvard Law, but I know it's very competitive. Does anyone know what kind of stats and achievements are generally required to have a solid shot at admission?

Harvard Law School (HLS) is indeed highly competitive; historically, the acceptance rate hovers around 13-17%. To maximize your chances of getting admitted, consider the following factors:

1. LSAT/GRE Scores: Although Harvard Law no longer requires the LSAT and accepts the GRE, it's essential to score well on either test. Most admitted students have LSAT scores in the 170-180 range (with a 50th-percentile LSAT score of about 174) and GRE scores around the 90th percentile in both sections. Note that scoring high on your chosen exam is necessary but not sufficient for admission.

2. GPA: HLS typically admits students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.75 and above, with the 50th-percentile GPA being about 3.9. A strong GPA from a respected college or university will strengthen your application.

3. Personal Statement and Recommendations: A compelling personal statement and strong letters of recommendation are crucial. HLS looks for applicants with a demonstrated interest in law, unique experiences, and a clear sense of purpose. Your recommenders should be able to speak to your intellectual curiosity, analytical skills, character, and potential for leadership.

4. Work Experience and Extracurricular Involvement: HLS values applicants with meaningful work experience, diverse backgrounds, and active involvement in extracurriculars. Experience in law-related fields is a plus, but not required. Showcasing your commitment to social justice, community service, or leadership in organizations or clubs can also be beneficial.

5. Interviews: After an initial application review, HLS invites a portion of its applicants for interviews. Prepare to discuss your interests, experiences, and reasons for pursuing a legal education at Harvard.

In summary, to have a solid shot at Harvard Law School, aim for high LSAT or GRE scores, a strong GPA, compelling personal statements, strong recommendations, and meaningful work and extracurricular experiences. Keep in mind that HLS evaluates applications holistically, considering all aspects of your background and experiences to make a well-informed decision.
