UCLA Waitlist Statistics?

Hey there, I applied to UCLA and unfortunately got waitlisted. Just wondering if anyone knows the statistics for getting off the waitlist or has any personal experiences with it? Thanks!

Hello! While the waitlist acceptance rate can vary from year to year depending on a variety of factors, including the number of applicants and the size of the admitted class, I can provide you with some general insights.

Historically, UCLA's waitlist acceptance rate has ranged from around 5% to 20%. In recent years, though, UCLA has waitlisted a larger number of applicants, which has led to a lower acceptance rate for those waitlisted - well under 10%, and often under 5%. Keep in mind that these statistics can still change depending on the application cycle.

Although getting off the waitlist might seem challenging, there are a couple of things you can do to demonstrate your continued interest in the university. For instance, make sure to follow any instructions provided by the school about updating your application or submitting additional materials.

You can also reach out to the admissions office via a letter of continued interest, to share updates about achievements, extracurriculars, or awards you've earned since submitting your application, as well as reiterate your commitment to attending UCLA if accepted. For more information on how to write this letter, check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/deferred-or-waitlisted-tips-for-writing-a-letter-of-continued-interest/.

All that being said, I would recommend having a backup plan in case you don't get off the waitlist. Secure your seat at another school by submitting a deposit by May 1 to ensure you have an option for the upcoming academic year. If you are eventually accepted at UCLA, you will be able to withdraw your commitment to the other school without penalty, although you will likely lose your deposit. Remember that many students on waitlists eventually find success at other schools and thrive in their chosen environments, so try not to get too discouraged.

Best of luck, and keep your fingers crossed!
