Psychology: Social Science or Humanities?

I've always been interested in Psychology and I'm trying to decide whether to categorize it as a social science or humanities subject. What do you all think? Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Hey there! Great question about psychology. Typically, psychology is considered a social science, as it focuses on understanding our behaviors, thoughts, and feelings through scientific research and the examination of human and animal behavior. However, some elements of psychology can touch on humanities disciplines, such as philosophy or history, when it delves into topics like human nature, consciousness, and ethics.

To be more specific, areas like cognitive psychology, behavioral psychology, social psychology, and neuroscience fall under the social sciences, as they involve systematic observation of behavior, collection of data, and the use of scientific methods.

On the other hand, areas like the history of psychology, psychological theories, and the philosophy of mind might be considered more closely aligned with the humanities.

Regardless, psychology is a fascinating and interdisciplinary field that combines elements of both social sciences and humanities. It is also highly versatile, with various sub-disciplines that cater to different interests, which makes it a fantastic area of study. Good luck with exploring your interests in psychology!
