UCLA vs Purdue: Which one should I choose?

Hey guys, I got accepted into both UCLA and Purdue, and I'm having trouble deciding between the two. My major will be engineering - does anyone have insights on their engineering programs? And what about campus life and job opportunities after graduation? Thanks!

Congratulations on getting accepted into both UCLA and Purdue! Both schools have strong engineering programs, but here’s a brief breakdown of some other factors that might swing you in one direction or another:

1. Engineering Programs: UCLA's engineering school, the Samueli School of Engineering, consistently ranks among the top engineering schools in the country. Purdue’s College of Engineering is also highly regarded, with specific strengths in areas such as aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering. Both programs will provide a rigorous education and access to cutting-edge research opportunities, but one may be slightly stronger for the subfields you’re most interested in.

2. Campus Life: UCLA is located in Los Angeles and thus has a diverse, dynamic campus life with various clubs, sports, and activities. The warm weather and proximity to beaches, entertainment, and cultural experiences make it an exciting place to live. Purdue, on the other hand, is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. It has a more traditional college town feel with a strong sense of community, but fewer big-city amenities. Think about the environment where you'd feel most comfortable and thrive.

3. Job Opportunities: Both UCLA and Purdue have extensive networks and resources for engineering graduates, including career fairs, alumni connections, and on-campus research and internship opportunities. Engineering graduates from both schools are highly recruited by top employers, so job prospects are strong regardless of which school you choose. However, you may want to consider each school’s geographical region as you make your choice—if you think you may settle on the west coast or in the southwest after graduation, having attended UCLA may open more doors for you, whereas Purdue might be a better name to have on your resume if you see yourself landing in the Midwest.

Ultimately, the decision comes down to your personal preferences and priorities. Take the time to review each school's offerings and speak with current students and alumni if possible to gain a better understanding of the overall experience. Best of luck in making your decision!
