What are some liberal universities in the US?

Hey folks, I'm looking into colleges and was wondering if there are any known liberal universities in the US? I'd love to be in a more progressive environment. Can anyone recommend some schools that fit that description? Thanks!

Hello! There are quite a few universities in the US that are known for their progressive and liberal environments. Keep in mind that the political climate on a college campus can vary, but here are some schools that have a reputation for being more liberal:

1. University of California, Berkeley: Also known as Cal, UC Berkeley is one of the most famous liberal campuses in the country with a rich history of activism and social justice.

2. Brown University: As an Ivy League school, Brown is well-regarded academically and is known for having a progressive student body and an open curriculum that promotes intellectual curiosity and exploration.

3. Wesleyan University: A small liberal arts college in Connecticut, Wesleyan has a reputation for its active and engaged student body, commitment to social justice, and strong arts programs.

4. Oberlin College: Located in Ohio, Oberlin is another liberal arts college with a long-standing commitment to social justice and diversity. It was the first college in America to admit African American students and women.

5. Vassar College: This liberal arts college in New York has a diverse student body and focuses on promoting social justice and inclusivity. It's also known for its strong arts and humanities programs.

6. Hampshire College: A small liberal arts college in Massachusetts, Hampshire encourages students to design their own programs of study and is noted for its commitment to social justice, sustainability, and community engagement.

7. Reed College: Located in Portland, Oregon, Reed is known for its intellectual rigor and progressive values. Students are encouraged to explore their interests in a highly collaborative environment.

Of course, there are many other colleges and universities in the US with more liberal student bodies and progressive values, but these schools are a good starting point. When researching, be sure to visit the campuses and talk to current students to get a sense of the environment and political climate on campus. Good luck with your search!
