How important are extracurricular activities?

Hello, I'm a junior and I've been wondering how important extracurricular activities are for college admissions. I'm involved in a few clubs and sports, but I'm worried that it might not be enough. How much weight do colleges place on extracurriculars, and should I try to do more? Thanks for your help!

Hi there! It's great that you're being proactive about college admissions and thinking about the importance of extracurricular activities. From my experience with my own child's college application process, extracurriculars do play a significant role in admissions decisions. They help demonstrate your interests, passions, and commitment to various activities outside of the classroom. Colleges are looking for well-rounded students who will contribute to the campus community in various ways. That being said, it's more important to be deeply involved and committed to a few activities that you're truly passionate about, rather than trying to do everything just for the sake of it. Focus on the clubs and sports you're already in, and see if there are ways to take on leadership roles or make a greater impact. Quality is more important than quantity. Keep up the good work, and good luck with your college applications!
