AP Calc AB - what calculators are allowed?

Hi fellow students! I'm starting AP Calc AB soon, and I heard there's a specific list of calculators that are allowed on the test. Does anyone have info on which calculator models are allowed? I wanna make sure I'm using the right one while I practice. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! You're correct that the College Board has a specific list of calculator models allowed for the AP Calculus AB exam. For the calculator portion of the exam, you'll need to use a graphing calculator that's approved by the College Board.

Some popular and approved graphing calculator models include:

1. Texas Instruments TI-83 (and its variations, such as the TI-83 Plus and TI-83 Plus Silver Edition)

2. Texas Instruments TI-84 (and its variations, such as the TI-84 Plus, TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, and TI-84 Plus CE)

3. Texas Instruments TI-89 (and the TI-89 Titanium)

4. Casio fx-9750GII (and other variations of the fx-9750G series)

5. Casio fx-9860GII (and other variations of the fx-9860G series)

6. HP 48G (and its variations, such as the HP 48G+, HP 48GX, and HP 50g)

Keep in mind that this is not an exhaustive list, and other calculator models may also be permitted. To ensure your calculator is on the approved list, you can refer to the College Board's rules and regulations for calculator use on AP exams. You can find this information on their website, specifically in the "Bulletin for AP Students and Parents."

When studying for your AP Calc AB exam, make sure you familiarize yourself with the specific calculator you'll be using, as knowing how to use it efficiently can be extremely helpful during the test. Good luck with your AP Calc AB journey!
