Top SUNY schools

Anyone has any insight on which SUNY schools are the best overall? I'm applying this year and want to know which ones have the strongest reputations.

While "best" can be subjective depending on what you're looking for in a school, here are some top SUNY schools that have overall strong reputations:

1. Binghamton University: Often regarded as the top SUNY school due to its strong academics and research opportunities. It offers a variety of well-regarded programs, but its most notable ones are in business and engineering.

2. Stony Brook University: Known for strong STEM programs, particularly in engineering, computer science, and the health sciences. It also boasts a renowned research hospital and is close to Brookhaven National Laboratory, which can lead to research and internship opportunities.

3. University at Buffalo: With a large and diverse student body, this school offers a wide range of programs, including well-respected ones in engineering, business, and the health sciences. It has a robust research environment and plentiful internship opportunities due to its location in Buffalo, a larger city compared to some of the locations of the other SUNY schools.

4. SUNY Geneseo: A smaller liberal arts college within the SUNY system, Geneseo is known for its strong humanities, social sciences, and education programs. Its close-knit community is attractive to students who prefer smaller class sizes and more personal interactions with professors.

5. SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry: Located next to Syracuse University, this specialized school focuses on environmental sciences, forestry, and related fields. It offers opportunities to participate in hands-on research and conservation projects.

6. University at Albany: This school has reputable programs in criminal justice, social sciences, and the humanities. Its location in Albany leads to research and internship opportunities for many students, particularly in government and nonprofit sectors since Albany is the state’s capital.

When choosing among these schools, consider factors such as size, location, campus culture, and the specific programs they offer that align with your interests and career goals. While this list will hopefully give you a good starting point, rankings aren’t everything, and it’s also possible that one school is ranked lower overall, but higher in your area of interest.

It's also a good idea to visit the campuses if you can, as that can help you get a feel for the overall environment and better determine which school may be the best fit for you. Good luck with your college application process!
