Carnegie Mellon SAT Requirements?

Hey, I'm really interested in applying to Carnegie Mellon! Does anyone know their SAT requirements or what they typically look for in an applicant's test scores?

Hi there! Carnegie Mellon University typically has a highly selective admissions process, and although they review applications holistically, SAT scores can still play an important role. The school is test-optional until at least Fall 2024, but this policy is subject to change.

For the SAT, the middle 50% of scores for Carnegie Mellon's 2022-2023 admissions cycle ranged between 1500 and 1560, which means that 25% of students scored below 1500 and 25% scored above 1560. However, keep in mind that these are not strict cutoffs, and students with scores below or above these ranges can still be admitted.

It's essential to consider the college or program you're applying to within Carnegie Mellon, as score expectations might vary. For instance, the College of Engineering and School of Computer Science could have higher score expectations compared to other colleges within the University.

Apart from test scores, Carnegie Mellon also takes a close look at your academic performance, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, essays, and other components of your application. So even if your SAT scores aren't as high as you would like, you still have an opportunity to demonstrate your abilities and passion through other aspects of your application. Best of luck with your application process!
