Hello everyone! I'm planning on applying to U of M, but I'm not sure if they require the SAT. Can someone help me figure this out?
Hello! The University of Michigan (U of M) is not currently test-optional. UMich does indeed consider standardized test scores in their admissions process, which includes the SAT. That said, in the 2023-24 admissions cycle, the school is allowing scores to be self-reported.
Keep in mind that every year, the pool of applicants can change, and thus, the average SAT scores may also change. To be competitive, you should aim to score well above the national average, and ideally, closer to the average scores of accepted students at U of M.
For context, here are the middle 50% of section scores at UMich in 2023:
- Reading and Writing: 670-750
- Math: 680-780
That being said, U of M uses a holistic approach to evaluate applicants, which means they'll look at your entire application, including GPA, course rigor, extracurriculars, leadership experiences, and essays. So while a strong SAT score can help boost your application, it's not the only factor that matters. It's essential to present a well-rounded application that showcases your strengths in multiple areas.
Good luck with your application to U of M! Remember to give attention to all aspects of your application and present yourself in the best light possible.
