Types of AP Score Awards?

Hey everyone, I was wondering what type of awards are available based on AP scores, and how they can help with the college admissions process. Can you share some insights on what these awards are, and how they might benefit me?

Hello! There are a number of awards offered by the College Board based on your AP exam performance. These awards can help showcase your academic strength in particular subject areas and highlight your commitment to challenging yourself academically, both of which may be seen as positive factors in the college admissions process.

1. AP Scholar: Granted to students who score a 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

2. AP Scholar with Honor: Awarded to students who achieve an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and score 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

3. AP Scholar with Distinction: Given to students who achieve an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and score 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

4. AP Seminar and Research Certificate™: Awarded to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research, but do not submit the AP Capstone Diploma™ Program application.

5. AP Capstone Diploma™: Awarded to students who score a 3 or higher on both AP Seminar and AP Research, and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing, and submit the AP Capstone Diploma™ Program application.

6. State AP Scholar: Given to the top male and female student in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia, based on high scores on the greatest number of AP Exams (minimum of three), with the highest average score on all exams taken.

7. National AP Scholar: Awarded to students in the United States who earn an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and score 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

These awards can be included in your college applications as an additional academic accomplishment. Although they may not be the most significant factor in the admissions process, they help demonstrate your dedication to rigorous coursework, strong performance in a variety of subjects, and your commitment to your academic growth.

Keep in mind that college admissions officers often prioritize course rigor and the grades you earn in AP classes more than the scores you receive on the exams themselves. However, having AP awards can provide an extra boost to your application that may set you apart from other applicants. Good luck with your college applications!
