What are the average ACT scores for University of Michigan?

Hello! I'm currently a junior and really interested in applying to UMich, but I'm not sure if my ACT score is competitive enough. Does anyone know the average ACT score range for accepted students? And are there any tips for improving my chances of getting in even if my score isn't the highest? Thanks!

Hi there! The middle 50% ACT score range for accepted students at the University of Michigan typically falls between 31 and 34. This means that 25% of admitted students score below 31, and another 25% score above 34. While these numbers provide a general idea of what a competitive ACT score might look like, keep in mind that UMich has a holistic admissions process, and your score is just one factor among many they'll consider.

To improve your chances of getting in, focus on strengthening other areas of your application. You can work on maintaining a high GPA, excelling in challenging courses (like honors or AP classes), and being actively involved in extracurricular activities that are meaningful to you. Demonstrating leadership, commitment, and passion in your chosen activities will make your application stand out.

When it's time to write your essays, make sure they showcase your unique voice and highlight different aspects of your personality and experiences. Avoid generic or cliché topics, and focus on telling a compelling story that will make admissions officers remember you.

Lastly, if you still feel your ACT score could be improved, consider retaking the test after some targeted preparation. Identify your weak areas and work on strategies to address them. Practice tests and prep materials can help you assess your progress and build confidence.

Keep in mind that a strong overall application is more significant than a single test score. So while it's essential to aim for a competitive ACT score, remember to focus on presenting the best version of yourself across all aspects of your application. Good luck!
