Hey guys, I know the SAT has changed a few times, so I'm a little confused. What is the SAT out of now? Is it a 1600, a 2400, or something else entirely?
The SAT is currently scored out of 1600 total points. This scoring system has been in place since 2016, when the College Board redesigned the exam. The 1600-point scale consists of two sections, the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW), and the Math section. Each section is scored on a range of 200-800 points, and the scores for both sections are combined to give you your overall SAT score.
Prior to 2016, the SAT was scored out of 2400 points, with the inclusion of an additional Writing section. This older version of the test isn't relevant anymore, as colleges only consider the current version with a maximum score of 1600. So, to answer your question: the SAT is currently scored out of 1600, with the 2400 scale being discontinued in 2016.
