Boston College ED2 - any advice?

I'm seriously considering applying to Boston College through their Early Decision 2 (ED2) process. What are some of the pros and cons of going through ED2? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences, especially if you went through the ED2 process there!

Applying Early Decision 2 (ED2) can be a great option for some students, but it's important to weigh the pros and cons carefully before making a decision. Here's a brief overview:

Pros:

1. Increased chances of acceptance: Applying ED2 can give you a statistical advantage in the admissions process. Colleges tend to accept a higher percentage of ED applicants compared to regular decision applicants, as it helps them solidify their incoming class and improve yield rates.

2. Demonstrated interest: By applying ED2, you're showing Boston College that they are your top choice. Colleges appreciate knowing that a student is eager to attend and is likely to enroll if accepted, and this can work in your favor in the admissions process.

3. Early notification: Although not as early as ED1, you'll still be informed about your admission decision earlier than regular decision applicants, giving you extra time to plan and prepare for college.

Cons:

1. Binding commitment: ED2 is a binding commitment, meaning that if you are accepted, you must withdraw all applications to other schools and enroll at Boston College. Before applying ED2, be sure you're absolutely certain that BC is the right fit for you.

2. Limited financial aid negotiation: If you're accepted through ED2, you may have less room to negotiate financial aid packages because you are committed to attending. Make sure your family is comfortable with BC's cost and financial aid offerings before applying ED2. Boston College does meet 100% of demonstrated need, so this can help alleviate some financial concerns for students with demonstrated need.

3. Less time to improve your application: Unlike regular decision, you won't have the entire fall semester to work on your application and possibly boost your GPA, test scores (if submitting), or extracurriculars. Ensure that your application is strong enough for ED2 consideration.

While I cannot provide personal experiences with Boston College's ED2 process, it's important to reflect on your own preferences and weigh the pros and cons. If you feel confident that Boston College is your top choice, and are comfortable with the financial aspects, applying ED2 could be a good decision for you. However, if you're still uncertain, it might be more beneficial to apply through regular decision and keep your options open. Good luck!
