Calc BC Score Calculation

What's up, everyone? I'm just wondering if anyone knows how AP Calc BC scores are calculated. I took the exam recently and would like an idea of what my final score might be. Thanks!

Hello! AP Calculus BC scores, like those of other AP exams, are calculated based on two main components: the multiple-choice section and the free-response section. The scores from these sections are combined and then mapped onto the 5-point AP scale (1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest). Here's a breakdown of how it works:

1. Multiple-Choice Section: This section consists of 45 questions, and it's worth 50% of your total exam score. For every correct answer, you earn one point. Incorrect answers don't result in any points deducted.

2. Free-Response Section: This section has 6 problems, and it's also worth 50% of your total exam score. Each problem is scored on a scale of 0-9, so you have the potential to earn a total of 54 points across all 6 problems.

Once you have your raw scores for both sections, they are combined to create your composite score. The College Board then uses a process called "equating" to determine the 5-point scale cut-off scores. Equating accounts for the level of difficulty of a particular exam and ensures that scores are comparable across different testing years.

Please note that the exact cut-off scores for each AP score (1-5) may vary slightly from year to year, so it's hard to give you a precise range for each AP score. However, as a rough guideline, you can expect the following:

- AP Score of 5: Typically, you'll need around 70% or more of the total composite score.

- AP Score of 4: A score of around 55-69% of the total composite score should be sufficient.

- AP Score of 3: For a 3, aim for a composite score in the range of 39-54%.

- AP Score of 1-2: Scoring below 39% of the total composite usually results in a 1 or a 2.

To estimate your AP Calc BC score, calculate your raw scores for both sections and combine them to find your composite score out of 108 total possible points. Then, use the approximate percentage ranges above as a guide to see where your composite score might fall on the 5-point scale. Good luck!
