Best Engineering Schools for B Students?

I'm a high school junior interested in pursuing engineering, but I'm more of a B student. Can you guys recommend any good engineering schools that I have a chance of getting into? I don't want to set my sights too high if it's unrealistic. Thanks in advance!

It's smart to consider a range of engineering schools that match your academic profile. While top engineering schools tend to be quite competitive, there are many reputable programs across the country that admit students with a broader range of grades. Here are a few engineering schools that you could consider as a B student:

1. California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) - With a strong focus on hands-on learning and a well-regarded engineering program, Cal Poly Pomona could be a great fit for you. The average admitted student has a GPA of around 3.7, so it's not out of reach for a solid B student.

2. Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) - This institution focuses exclusively on engineering and applied sciences. With an average admitted student GPA of around 3.6, MSOE offers a strong, focused education for aspiring engineers.

3. Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) - Located in Melbourne, Florida, FIT has an average admitted student GPA of 3.7. The school offers a variety of engineering majors and has a relatively small student-to-faculty ratio, so you'd be sure to get personalized attention from your professors here.

4. University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) - UMass Lowell has a strong engineering program and a reputable co-op program that partners with local businesses. The average admitted student GPA is around 3.5, making it a viable option for a B student.

5. University of Akron (UA) - UA's College of Engineering offers twelve ABET-accredited engineering majors, and the average admitted student has a 3.4 GPA. The school has strong ties to local industries, which provide students with many co-op and internship opportunities.

When researching engineering schools, keep in mind that GPA is just one part of the admissions process, and other factors like extracurriculars, essays, and letters of recommendation can also be crucial. If you're strong in those areas, that can help compensate for a slightly lower GPA.

Additionally, there are also plenty of other excellent schools out there that accept students who have received primarily B grades. You can find a list of some of them on CollegeVine's blog: https://blog.collegevine.com/best-schools-to-get-into-with-a-3-5-gpa. If any of these schools catch your eye, you can then do more research on their engineering programs to see if any might be an especially good fit for what you're looking for.

Good luck with your college search!
