USC majors - acceptance rate difference?

Hi everyone! I'm planning to apply to USC and was curious if different majors have different acceptance rates? Should I factor that into my decision on which major to apply for?

Hi there! It's true that competitive universities like USC may have varying acceptance rates for different majors, particularly for popular and selective programs. For example, programs like business, engineering, or film production may have lower acceptance rates due to high demand and limited spacing.

However, it is generally not the best strategy to base your decision on applying to a particular major solely on its acceptance rate. When applying to college, it's essential to prioritize your genuine interests and strengths. If you choose a major just because of its acceptance rate, you may find it challenging to convincingly articulate your passion for it in your application, which may ultimately harm your chances of admission.

Instead of focusing on acceptance rates, my suggestion would be to research the different programs at USC that interest you and align with your skills and goals. Look into curriculum details, faculty, research opportunities, and resources available to help you decide on your major. Demonstrating a genuine fit and strong motivation for your chosen major can significantly impact your application positively.

Remember, your choice of major will play a significant role in shaping your college experience and ultimately your career. It's better to apply to a major that you're passionate about and capable of excelling in. Good luck!
