Applying Early Decision to Syracuse: Good Idea?

I'm currently a junior, and I think Syracuse is my dream school. Is applying early decision to Syracuse worth it? Will it increase my chances of getting accepted? Also, for those who have done ED at Syracuse, what was your experience like?

Applying Early Decision (ED) can be a good idea if Syracuse is undoubtedly your top choice, as applying ED typically increases an applicant's chances of getting accepted due to demonstrated interest and commitment to attending the school if accepted. Colleges appreciate when students choose their institution as their top choice, and are also more likely to admit them due to the higher yield rate associated with ED applicants.

In terms of exact acceptance rates, Syracuse's overall rate has been around 40% in recent years, but the ED rate has been significantly higher, between 60-70%. Remember, though, that your individual outcome will still largely depend on the strength of your application and how well it aligns with Syracuse's standards and criteria - applying early doesn't guarantee acceptance on its own.

As for the experiences of those who applied ED at Syracuse, for many students, the ED process can be a source of relief because once they're accepted, they know where they'll be attending college without having to worry about comparing various schools and waiting for decisions from multiple institutions. However, it's also a good idea to consider other colleges and even start working on your applications while you wait for your ED decision, just in case you aren't accepted.

If Syracuse really is your your dream school, then applying ED could be an excellent decision! Just make sure you feel comfortable taking all your other options off the table if you are admitted. Best of luck with your application!
