Do early action colleges look at senior grades?

Hi there! I am applying early action to a few colleges, and I was wondering if they will look at my senior year grades? My GPA is solid, but I want to know if they'll consider my senior year performance or only up to junior year. Thanks!

Hi! Early action colleges definitely look at your senior year course rigor, meaning the number and difficulty of the classes you've chosen to take in your senior year. However, because early action deadlines are typically in November, colleges usually won't have access to your first semester senior year grades when they review your application, as those grades won't be available until December or January.

That being said, if your first quarter or trimester grades are available and you believe they will boost your application, you can ask your high school counselor to include them in your transcript or mention them in their recommendation letter. Just keep in mind that not all high schools report first quarter/trimester grades.

Even though early action schools may not see your senior year grades during the application review, it's essential to maintain solid academic performance throughout your senior year. If you are accepted, colleges will still require your final transcript, and any significant drop in grades or course rigor could lead to a rescinded offer of admission.

In summary, early action colleges are more focused on your course rigor during your senior year than your actual senior year grades, but maintaining a strong performance is crucial. Good luck with your applications!
