Calculating ACT science score?

Hey all, I just took the ACT and am wondering how my science score will be calculated. Can anyone give me a rundown of how it works? Is there a calculator or a resource I can use to predict my science score? Thanks in advance!

Hello! I'd be happy to explain how the ACT science score is calculated. The ACT Science section comprises 40 questions, and your raw score is determined by the number of questions you answer correctly. There are no penalties for incorrect answers, so it's in your best interest to answer every question.

To convert your raw score to the scaled science score (which ranges from 1 to 36), the ACT uses a process called equating. Equating takes into account the difficulty level of the test you took, as different tests may have slightly different levels of difficulty. This process ensures that your score is consistent with scores from other test-takers who may have taken a different version of the test. Unfortunately, the exact conversion table for raw to scaled scores is not available for each individual test, but you can find some pre-existing conversion tables online to give you a rough idea of the scaled score range that would correspond to a specific raw score.

When tabulating your overall composite ACT score (which also ranges from 1 to 36), each of the four sections (English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science) receives a scaled score, and the composite score is the average of these four scores, rounded to the nearest whole number.

Please note that the conversion tables you find online might provide only estimations of your actual science score, as the unique equating process used by the ACT for each test administration is not made public. For the most accurate science and composite scores, you'll have to wait for your official ACT score report.

I hope this information helps! Good luck with your ACT scores!
