Difficulty of Getting Into Texas A&M?

Can anybody help me gauge how hard it is to get accepted into Texas A&M? I'm starting to work on my college list, and I just want to know if I have a realistic shot.

Sure! Texas A&M University is a moderately selective school, with an acceptance rate around 60% in recent years. While it's not as competitive as some top-tier institutions, getting accepted still requires solid academic performance and extracurricular involvement.

To assess whether you have a realistic shot at Texas A&M, consider comparing your academic profile to the average admitted student. The middle 50% range of test scores for high school students admitted to Texas A&M is typically around:

- SAT: 1160–1380 (for those who submit scores, as they are currently test-optional)

- ACT: 25–31

Keep in mind that Texas A&M is currently test-optional, so these numbers don't necessarily reflect the performance on these tests for all accepted students. But hopefully, they can give you an initial sense of where you stand, especially since Texas A&M doesn't officially publish accepted students' GPAs.

Of course, admission decisions also factor in your extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and college essays (you can read more about how to tackle Texas A&M's supplemental essays on CollegeVine's blog: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-texas-am-university-essays). However, these benchmarks can serve as a helpful starting point for gauging your chances.

Additionally, your chances of acceptance could vary when applying to specific colleges within Texas A&M, such as Mays Business School or the College of Engineering, which may be more selective due to the popularity and reputation of their programs.

If you want to get a more comprehensive sense of how you stack up overall at Texas A&M, consider checking out CollegeVine's free chancing engine (https://www.collegevine.com/admissions-calculator), which directly compares your profile to those of accepted students, and also provides you with suggestions for how to improve your odds.

Overall, though, if your academic profile is strong, and you have extracurricular involvement to support your application, you will likely have a realistic shot at being admitted to Texas A&M, so long as you're thoughtful in putting together your application so that your best qualities come across clearly. Good luck with your college search!
