UMD Test Scores: What's competitive?

I'm going to apply to the University of Maryland (UMD) and was wondering what test scores are considered competitive for admission. I have an ACT score, but what range should I aim for to be a strong applicant?

To be a competitive applicant for the University of Maryland (UMD), you'll want to aim for an ACT score within the middle 50% range of admitted students. For UMD, this range is typically between 32 and 35. Keep in mind that this doesn't guarantee admission as your complete application, including your GPA, extracurricular activities, and essays, will be evaluated holistically.

However, having a score in this range or even higher can strengthen your candidacy. If your current ACT score is below 32, you might consider retaking the test to increase your chances. Test preparation resources, practice exams, and effective study strategies can help you boost your score.

Remember, UMD also currently practices test-optional admissions, so if you feel your ACT score doesn't accurately represent your academic abilities and potential, you can choose not to submit it. In this case, the admissions office will place more emphasis on other aspects of your application, such as your GPA, course rigor, and extracurricular involvement.
