How do I know if I qualify for financial aid?

Hello! I'm a junior in high school and I've been hearing a lot about financial aid. I'm not sure if I would qualify for any assistance and I don't want to miss out on opportunities. How can I find out if I'm eligible for financial aid? Thanks for your help!

Hello! It's great that you're already thinking about financial aid as a junior in high school. Financial aid can be a huge help in making college more affordable, and it's important to know what you may be eligible for. To determine your eligibility for financial aid, you'll want to start by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA will ask for information about your family's income, assets, and other financial details. Based on this information, it will calculate your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is the amount the government believes your family can contribute towards your education. Colleges and universities use your EFC to determine your financial need and create a financial aid package for you. Financial aid packages can include grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and loans. Keep in mind that the FAFSA becomes available on October 1st every year, and you should complete it as soon as possible to maximize your eligibility for aid. Also, check with the colleges you're interested in, as some may require additional forms, such as the CSS Profile. It's a good idea to research scholarships offered by your school, local organizations, and private foundations, as well. Best of luck, and don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions!
