Boston University BS/MD program acceptance rate?

Hi everyone! I'm planning to apply to BU's BS/MD program and I'm curious about the acceptance rate for this program specifically. Does anyone know how competitive it is compared to their regular undergraduate admissions? Thanks in advance!

Hello! Boston University's BS/MD program, also known as the Seven-Year Liberal Arts/Medical Education (SMED) program, is indeed highly competitive. While BU does not publish the exact acceptance rate for the SMED program, it is generally understood to be significantly lower than the regular undergraduate acceptance rate, which typically hovers around 15%.

The SMED program admits only a small number of students each year, and as such, competition is quite intense. Candidates for the program are evaluated not only on their academic performance, but also on their extracurricular involvement, recommendation letters, and commitment to the medical profession.

Given the competitive nature of the program, it is important to maintain strong grades, engage in relevant extracurriculars such as volunteer work, research, or shadowing physicians, and demonstrate your passion for the field through your essays and interviews. While the acceptance rate can be daunting, remember that each applicant's journey is unique, and your individual strengths will play a significant role in the decision-making process, even more so than the program’s overall selectivity.

Best of luck with your application!
