List of SAT Vocab Words?

Hey everyone! I've been doing some SAT prep, and I was wondering if there's a good comprehensive list of SAT vocab words that could help me out? Also, are there any effective strategies for memorizing them? Thanks in advance!

Hello! It's a smart move to expand your vocabulary while prepping for the SAT. Although the SAT no longer has a section specifically dedicated to vocabulary, having a strong vocabulary can still be beneficial when tackling reading passages and writing the essay. Here's a two-pronged approach that should help:

1. Create a vocabulary list:

Since the SAT isn't focused on testing specific vocab words anymore, I'd recommend studying a mix of commonly used academic words, words from past SAT tests, and vocab from the reading passages you encounter during your test prep. You can find lists of words to study online, or alternatively, a comprehensive SAT prep book will often include vocabulary sections. While going through practice materials, make a note of any unfamiliar words and add them to your list.

2. Memorize the words effectively:

There are several strategies that can be helpful for memorization. Here are three popular methods:

a. Flashcards: Traditional flashcards or digital flashcard apps are excellent tools for testing yourself on the words and their definitions. Try to quiz yourself daily for a few weeks leading to the exam to build retention.

b. Mnemonics: Create memory aids to help remember the definitions. For example, associate a word with a mental image or find a word that rhymes/sounds similar to the word and helps you recall the meaning.

c. Context-based learning: Whenever possible, read a variety of texts, such as articles or books, to see the words being used in context. This will not only help with memorization but also in understanding their usage in the SAT's reading passages.

Remember, it's essential to balance your focus on vocabulary with other aspects of SAT prep. Concentrate on improving your reading comprehension, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, which hold more weight in the current SAT format. Good luck!
