SCU CS vs. Engineering Acceptance Rates?

Hey everyone! I'm super interested in Santa Clara University and I'm trying to decide between applying as a Computer Science major vs. an Engineering major. Would anyone happen to know the acceptance rates for both of these programs, and their comparison to SCU's overall acceptance rate? Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hello! While Santa Clara University doesn't publicly release acceptance rates for particular majors or programs, I can provide you with some general insights.

The acceptance rate for SCU as a whole has been right around 50% in recent years, which gives you a general idea of the school's competitiveness. The School of Engineering at SCU is well-regarded, though, and thus might be more competitive than some other programs at the university. As for the Computer Science major, it tends to be popular and quite competitive at many colleges, so it's possible that the acceptance rate for this major may be lower than the university's overall acceptance rate as well.

While these are just estimates, the acceptance rates for those particular majors could be somewhere in the 30-40% range, or even the high 20s. However, when selecting your major, it's crucial to choose the one that aligns with your interests and future goals, rather than only focusing on acceptance rates. Additionally, since both of the majors you're considering are known to be popular and competitive across higher education, you likely won't be able to game the odds even if you wanted to.

Finally, remember that you can often switch your major after getting to college. Although that can come with its own set of challenges, you aren't locking yourself into something for four years when you submit your application. So, try not to stress too much - explore the curriculum, faculty, and facilities for both majors to help you make the best choice, and then focus on bringing out your aptitude for that field in your application to Santa Clara. Good luck!
