Maker Portfolio for MIT application?

Hey there, I'm working on my MIT application and noticed they have a Maker Portfolio option. I'm involved in some cool projects but wasn't sure if I should include them. Have any of you submitted a Maker Portfolio, and did you find it helpful in the admissions process? Any input would be great, thanks!

Hey! Submitting a Maker Portfolio can definitely be a great addition to your MIT application, especially if your projects showcase your creativity, passion, or skills in areas like engineering, design, computing, or other hands-on disciplines. Including this portfolio can help demonstrate your abilities to admissions officers in a more tangible way than just listing extracurriculars on your application.

Many students who are admitted to MIT (and other schools with a strong focus on engineering or applied sciences) have indeed submitted Maker Portfolios. It's important to emphasize that while it's not required, it can provide a boost to your overall application if your portfolio showcases impressive and well-documented projects.

When preparing your Maker Portfolio, be sure to:

1. Choose your projects wisely: Focus on projects that really highlight your skills, creativity, and passion for the subject matter. It's better to have a few well-crafted projects than a large number of less impressive ones.

2. Document your projects: Use clear photos or videos to showcase your work, and include captions or descriptions that explain your decision-making process, the challenges you faced, and the solutions you came up with.

3. Make it personal: Explain why these projects are meaningful to you, how they relate to your academic or career interests, and what you learned from them.

Overall, submitting a well-prepared Maker Portfolio can be beneficial to your application and help you stand out among other competitive applicants. Best of luck with your MIT application!
